Drive It Like You Stole It!!!

MY 86 TOYOTA 4X4

SSit Back And Lemme tell you the Story Of One Of So-Cal's Most Notorious Toyotas

This Is Soo true!!

It all started in the fall of 1992 when I spotted the remains of this beast sitting all forlorn in front of a house in Pacific Beach.  It had been stolen and stripped badly.

For the princely sum of $1,200 I had this thing in my garage and the buildup commenced.

The first stop was at a local junkyard to replace all of the missing pieces.  The Bumper, rims and most of the interior was gone. When recovered it was wheelless so the towing yard had put a set of wheels and tires on it so itcould be moved.  It had twoPINKrims w/bald tires on it and two microspares.

After replacing the carpet, door panels, seats, dash and steering wheel it's office was much more livable.  The 500 watt 10 speaker Alpine, Polk, J.L and M.B Quart CD stereo system helps too.

The paint on the truck was faded to the point where it was almost a flat powder blue color, being on a tight budget I decided to try to save it.  After a weekend of quality time with a buffer and some compound it was gleaming like the day it rolled off the showroom floor.

Once the paint was squared away it was time to have a little fun.  I went to the local 4x4 shop and warmed up one of my credit cards to get the Hella and K.C lights, the Smittybilt roll bar and bumpers, Bilstein shocks, an Optima battery and K&N Air Filter.  Once that was all done i drove it. And drove it, And drove it.  She was taken on many desert trips, Journeys to Las Vegas and on one occasion, across an asshole neighbors lawn.  In 5 yrs I manage to click off over 100,000 miles on the odometer.

At exactly 199,989 miles tragedy struck.  The engine decided (despite overzealous maintence) that it had taken all it could and spit a vavle thru the top of the # 4 piston.  When I got the long block back from my motor builder i added a few things to improve performance and looks.  A 40mm  Weber carb, Crower camshaft, Doug Thorley header, Flowmaster muffler, Downey super clutch, Crane Hi-6 ignition and coil, Auto meter tach and Jacobs wires.  The sawblade style wheels had seen better days so they were replaced with a set of Alcoas with 32x11.5 BFG Mud Terrains.  A matching 5th tire and wheel now reside in a bed mounted carrier.

Ahh.......Finally some mud to play in

I have a love hate relationship with the guy that owns the local self serve car wash.  It costs me $20 or so to get all the mud off of my truck but it takes him a while to get all the mud out of the stall when I am done. = )

With over 240,000 miles on her now, I am continuing to enjoy my truck to the fullest.  I have no plans of ever parting with her for she has practically become a member of my family.
Future plans include gears and lockers, a full roll cage, reworked suspension, fiberglass fenders, hood, bedsides and a fresh coat of paint.

I hope you enjoyed hearing about the story of my truck and if you have any pics of your cars, trucks or any comments about mine then feel free to
